Another decent seven days for the followers of Andy Newton’s weekly hot and cold trends feature with William Haggas and the three knights of the realm – Henry, Mark and Michael – continuing to lord it over the others…..

Some highlights from last week’s spotlighted trainers………………

William Haggas: This year’s Oaks winning trainer continues to sparkle with seven more winners over the last week, and although three returned favourite they also had a 15/2 success, a 5/1 winner on Wednesday at Sandown and a very rewarding 14/1 shot go in at Yarmouth on Monday.

Sir Henry Cecil: Another three winners, including Twice Over and the mighty Frankel in the last 7 days, from just a handful of runners further backs-up that the Cecil winning run is not about to end just yet.

Sir Mark Prescott Bt: Not many runners have come out of the stable in recent days, but a 7/2 winner last Saturday at York backed up his inclusion in last week’s list.

Sir Michael Stoute: A few near misses at Goodwood so far this week, but a 5/1 winner at Ascot on Sunday and Dumbarton going in at 9/4 on Monday night at Windsor were nice rewards for his followers.

Mahmood Al Zarooni: Only one winner last week for the newer of the Godolphin trainer, but it was a huge 20/1 – we hope you were on!

Clive Brittain (Cold Trainer): The Newmarket-based trainer continues to have a stinker and it’s now 40 days and 55 runners without a win. A couple of seconds at Windsor on Monday suggest things might be set to turn around soon, but a small word of caution is still advised.

This Week’s Featured Hot Trainers…….
SIR HENRY CECIL (8 Winners from his last 19 runners – 42%) – There seems to be no let-up in the form of the former champion trainer as the Cecil team, backed up by Frankel’s mind blowing Sussex Stakes win, continue to fire in the winners. Add in Twice Over and an easy odds-on winner at Epsom last week then despite their limited runners the ones they are sending to post are certainly upholding their current excellent strike-rate. Looking ahead, they’ve got a few going to Goodwood on Thursday and Friday, while Midday will be their main hope on Saturday as she bids to win her third Nassau Stakes on the spin.

MILTON BRADLEY (5 Winners from his last 13 runners – 38%) – This veteran trainer is certainly rolling back the years at present with 5 winners from his last 13 runners, that included a 7/1 (two), 5/1, 10/3 and 3/1 winners. It goes without saying that almost all of Milton’s horses are sprinters, so 5f,6f and 7f races are where you’ll find most of his runners, while in terms of jockey’s Liam Keniry is the man to make a note of – he’s been 3 of those recent successes. Glancing ahead to their entries he’s got plenty scattered around the country over the next 4 or 5 days, most notably Bath on Friday.

MRS K BURKE (10 Winners from her last 27 runners – 37%) – The Burke team are on a real roll at the moment, well they have been for a month or so now. Ten winners from their last 27, including one at Sandown on Wednesday evening, is an excellent strike-rate for one of the smaller yards and although most were shortish prices they did have a 20/1 winner at Haydock and a 14/1 Ripon success earlier in the month. Andrew Elliott is the main man who gets the leg-up – he’s been on 7 of those recent winners. They have a few heading to Thirsk and Musselburgh this Friday that look interesting, plus still have Miami Gator, who won earlier in the week, entered in the totesport Mile at Goodwood.

ROGER VARIAN (5 Winners from his last 16 runners – 31%) – Last Thursday saw two winners and a second from three runners, but from their last 16 runners a massive 13 have finished in the top four. Stable jockey Neil Callan has obviously been on most of these, but they did use the talented Andrea Atzeni last week for one of those Thursday wins up at Doncaster. It also might be nothing but it stands out that from those 5 recent winners they were ALL over either 1m2f or 7f – so keep that in mind.

KEVIN RYAN (9 Winners from his last 44 runners – 20%) – The Ryan team are having a great season and seem to have a nice batch of juveniles this term, but despite not having a winner now for 10 runs, they are popping up at very nice prices (8/1, 10/1, 12/1, 14/1), so if they continue to bang them in at those prices it doesn’t matter if they have small runs without a winner. Their Masamah, in the Group Two Audi King George Stakes on Thursday, looks interesting, while they have several more heading to the southern track on Friday and Saturday too.

WILLIAM HAGGAS (11 Winners from his last 37 runners – 29%) – Another 14/1 winner at Yarmouth on Monday for the Haggas team, plus a 5/1 success at Sandown on Wednesday and a 15/2 going in at HQ last Saturday means anything they run at the moment should be noted. They are using a variety of jockey’s – at the time of writing 9 of their recent winners have been ridden by DIFFERENT pilots! As you’d expect they have plenty of entries around the land, but all eyes will be on Green Destiny in the totesport Mile on Friday at Goodwood.

JOHN GOSDEN (9 Winners from his last 34 runners – 26%) – The recent King George winning trainer actually landed a monster 316/1 treble at Ascot last Saturday after Aiken and Bronze Prince added to Nathaniel’s victory. William Buick or Richard Hills have been on all their last 9 victories, so bear that in mind when looking at their runners at Goodwood for the rest of the week, while they also have several good chances heading to Doncaster on Saturday too.

PAUL NICHOLLS (2 Winners from his last 6 runners – 33%) – They took their foot off the summer jumping pedal over the past few weeks, but two winners from just 2 runners at Worcester on Tuesday indicates the champion trainer might be ready to unleash a few more again soon. It’s a surprise he doesn’t send more to Galway this week, but at this stage does have two entered at Newton Abbot on Sunday – with Ruby on the sidelines then new second stable jockey Daryl Jacob should get the leg-up on most of theirs.

BARRY HILLS (4 Winners from his last 24 runners – 16%) – Okay, only a 16% strike-rate at the moment, but the Hills team were on the cold list recently and have really turned it around over the last 7 days. To be fair they were not running many during that lean spell, but a 14/1 winner at HQ on Saturday and another 8/1 victory at Ascot on Sunday were the highlights from a spell that saw the yard have 4 winners in 3 days. Add in that a lot of their runners are getting placed, including 33/1 Llanarmon Lad on Tuesday at Goodwood, then I don’t think a complete return to form is too far away.

This Week’s Cold Trainer

Jim Boyle (28 days and 25 runners without a winner) – Based in Epsom the Boyle team, although not the biggest yard, are just starting to get a bit itchy at the moment with almost a month without a winner – and considering they’ve been racing at his local track every Thursday in July this is a slight worry. In fact, despite training just down the road from the Surrey track at the time of writing his record at Epsom is shocking – just 2 winners from his last 70 runners! Predictably he’s got four entered there again this Thursday, but the his track figures coupled with the recent poor form of the yard these are reasons enough to tread very carefully before lumping on any of their runners at present.
