Stat of the Day: 11th July 2012
Two Hughie horses yesterday, and both ran well, but without enhancing our bottom line. A change of chair today, and I’m off to Ireland, as I can’t find anything noteworthy this side of the sea. I’m hoping to lift the hex at Wex…
2.15 Wexford
In what I think is a first for SotD, we’re heading to the southeastern corner of Ireland, and Wexford.
One chap who always seems to fill his boots here is Michael Hourigan. Remarkably, from just eight runners priced 10/1 or less in the last three years, he’s had six winners! Alas, Hourigan doesn’t have one horse for me to leap aboard this evening, but two. So there’s a reasonable prospect of me choosing the wrong one.
Nevertheless, I think a stronger case can be made for Cuteasafox, especially after this omen from my garden this morning.
Cuteasafox – the horse – is having her third start over hurdles tonight.
After a very promising second place on good ground on her debut, Cuteasafox pulled up last time out… on very soft ground.
It’s unlikely to be a coincidence that her two best runs have come when soft wasn’t in the going description, so it’s to be hoped that they have no more rain in that corner of Ireland (I know, I know).
Assuming it stays dry, she ought to go close in a moderate enough contest.
Barry Geraghty has ridden her on her first two starts over hurdles, including that P on the scorecard last time, and he keeps the faith here, which can be seen as a positive.
The drop back in trip should also be in Cuteasafox’s favour today and, if the rain stays away, she should go close. Win only is a bit ‘ballsy’, so you might play each way, but SotD will have its point on the nose. She’s 8/1 with Ladbrokes BOG, but do…
