Stat of the Day
Stat of the Day: 25th July 2012
Yet another fourth place last night, and the fourthitis continues. Let’s hope the medicine kicks in soon, maybe even before we head for Esher this evening and the 1600m race which is the…
8.05 Sandown
Yes, bizarrely, Racing for Change (who, in my view, do a lot of excellent work) have decided to experiment with metric weights and distances. So this race will be over 1600 metres, not a mile.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I would never say to someone asking for directions, “It’s about 1.6 kilometres down the road”, or “I weigh 73 kilos”. It’s a mile down the road, and 11 stone 7 pounds! Enough already, for it won’t alter whether we win or lose tonight.
Jeremy Noseda is the man I’m backing to return us to winning weighs… sorry ways. His record at Sandown in recent years is good – thirteen winners from 41 runners, and a ten point profit. With his three year olds, he’s nine from 28 (32%) for an eight point profit.
His sole runner today is the three year old, Burke’s Rock. This lass has only had four runs, and she’s won two of them, both over a mile. There should be no worries about the ground, nor about the uphill finish here.
Burke’s Rock did finish last on her previous start, but that was when stepped up an extra quarter mile, and she was cruising like the winner at the mile point that day. She was also sent off the 10/11 favourite, so is clearly held in high regard.
This is a typically competitive Sandown handicap, but we have a fit and capable filly in our corner, and she’s 7/1 BOG with William Hill, so we can back her each way.

p.s. I would have nominated Saytara in the 7.45 Leicester, but I missed the price (and consequently the value). If that one goes out to 11/4 or 3/1 I’ll be backing her.
