Stat of the Day: 3rd August 2012
A third place finish for Medici Music yesterday at 4/1, which gave a small return for the place backers, but nothing for SotD records. He ran pretty well in truth, but didn’t quite have the turn of foot needed in the final two furlongs to get home. He was staying on towards the end and perhaps a little further might be needed in future?
Anyway, Friday is a new day with new challenges to take on. The sun is shining, so pack your bags, we’re off on a day trip!
SotD is travelling over the water to Ireland today to take a look at the 2012 Galway Festival and our chosen race is the 2m 6f Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase for 4yr olds and over. The going is likely to be Soft and we’re expecting 17 runners (easy job picking the winner, eh?) to contest the…
6.15 Galway
Trainer Dessie Hughes doesn’t often have many chasers out at Galway. In fact, he’s only saddled eight of them since the turn of 2011, but his record has been pretty good. From the eight representatives sent out in these Galway chases, six of them have made the frame with two of them actually going on to win. All eight races were contested over today’s 2m6f distance.
In true SotD form, Dessie has just the one runner out today: in the 2m6f chase, of course! The horse in question is Raz De Maree, a smart hurdler before turning to chasing. He runs off a mark of 125 over hurdles, yet gets in today at 119, so he seems very favourably weighted for this one in an attempt to record back to back wins.
Raz De Maree is currently priced up at 9/2 joint favourite and will probably go off as outright favourite. Although we don’t often place our SotD bets at this end of the market, it should also be noted that favourites do well in this particular contest with a level stakes profit of 12.5pts at S.P. over the last 5 years. So. it’s 9/2 BOG for me with BetFred (or Boylesports), but you can always…
