A really nice run yesterday, though no return on investment, from Scottish Boogie. Nominated at 25/1, he was sent off 16’s, and was one of the few to come from off the pace and close to contention late on. Eventually finishing sixth of fourteen, beaten just four lengths, he’ll come on for that, and is definitely one for the notebook.

2.15 Bath

I’m a bit late today, and this horse has been backed already, but I still believe there’s value in the price.

Dennis Coakley is the trainer, and his Bath record – five from fourteen with 2yo’s, and a profit of 44.12 units – is of immediate interest.

When you consider that the horse is a twice raced juvenile, with a course and distance win under his belt already, you have an attractive proposition.

The horse in question is Alcando, one of two runners for Coakley this afternoon (the other being Rebecca Romero in the 1.45). As I say, he was a winner on debut here in a class 5 maiden, and then was beaten a fair way last time when stepping up in trip and onto the all weather.

Back on more familiar territory, he must have a chance in a race which will probably be run to suit. Vestibule is likely to try to make all and, from trap three, Alcando has a great chance of stalking the pace and kicking on a furlong out.

Despite having been nibbled from 7’s into 6’s, I still think that’s a price worth taking, and Bet365 are also Best Odds Guaranteed. Win only is the play, which means he’ll almost certainly finish second or third!
