Stat of the Day, 24th September 2012

Good Morning everyone, I’m back from a bit of a busman’s holiday yesterday. I spent the afternoon at Uttoxeter races with my wife, my 19yr-old son and 7yr-old daughter and despite the rain, we had a very enjoyable time of it. There was some decent jumps racing on offer, good-sized fields and the presence of Mr McCoy added to the day.

The fact that we came home with a fair bit more money than we left with was an added bonus. We knew we’d be in for a good day, when my 7yr-old daughter selected the 10/1 winner in the first race. Perhaps she should start writing for Geegeez! 😀

Anyway let’s cut to the chase as SotD continues on its travels and moves from Ireland to Scotland today for an 8-runner handicap over 5 furlongs. Whether they’ll be able to sprint through the mud is another matter, as the going is already officially heavy for the…

5.10 Hamilton

Alan Berry’s training record at Hamilton is unspectacular at best, just 5 winners (6.75%) and 10 placed (20.3% placed overall) from 74 attempts in the last 2 years and he has used jockey Julie Burke in 14 of those races. Those 14 races haven’t proved any more successful either, yielding just one win and one other placed finish.

So, why are these two involved in Stat of the Day?

It’s quite simple today: we’re taking a bit of a punt on the horse itself.
And the horse in question is Wicked Wilma.

Wicked Wilma is never going to challenge the country’s top sprinters at the age of 8 and she really needs things to fall her way to be successful, but her record at Hamilton is far better than her record elsewhere. From a career record of 8 wins from 85 (just 9.4%)  and a total of 36 top three finishes (a respectable 42.4%), those figures are improved to three winners from 12 at Hamilton and a total of 6 top three finishes, so she clearly runs better here.

As I mentioned earlier, the ground is definitely heavy out there and previous experience/success on heavy ground counts for plenty at this level. Wicked Wilma has already run seven times over today’s distance on heavy ground and her record reads 1334143 : 2 winners, 3 places from 7.

Whilst not an obvious pick for the day, the track and the going are in her favour and at a current best price of 11/2 BOG with both bet365 and BetVictor, a 0.5pt E/W bet should enable us to at least get our money back on a difficult-looking day, but as always, I advise you to…
