Stat of the Day, 21st October 2012
Our recent good form ended with a bump yesterday, as Eijazz failed to deliver. In fact, he didn’t look anything like the Eijazz of old, never figuring before tamely coming home last of all 11 runners.
There’s not much jumping out at me at either Bath nor Kempton today, so SotD is making one of its rare sorties across the Irish Sea and we’re off to County Kildare for the Class 1 Irish Stallion Farms E B F Garnet Stakes. It’s a Fillies Listed event over a mile on heavy ground and 8 runners are set to go to post for the…
Of the trainers with runners at Naas today, J S Bolger has the best record in non-handicap races held at the track. 18 of his 43 representatives have made the frame (41.9%), including nine winners (20.9%). These nine winners have generated a respectable 10pts profit, which equates to a 23.3% return on your money.
Now, many of Bolger’s horses are ridden by Kevin Manning and this has helped Kevin to also have best record of the jockeys in action today. They team up today on 4 horses, but it’s the last of the four that interests me here.
Our selection today is Loreto who won her maiden in July over this course & distance on similarly heavy ground and then went on to make further progress when winning a 9-runner, 1-mile handicap at Listowel in September. She didn’t always look at ease that day and carried her head somewhat awkwardly, so blinkers are applied for the first time today and that should settle her down a touch more. She seems to be making good progress and although this is another step up, she does have the ability to make another good impression here. Her short career so far has been impressive with her record reading 341431 with both her victories coming over today’s one mile trip on heavy ground.
I’m sure she’ll get the course, the going and the trip, the main concern is the step up in class and whether she can cope with that. This is, of course, reflected in the price of 10/1 BOG (Boylesports & Paddy Power), so the safest /wisest option today is 0.5pts E/W on Loreto at 10/1 BOG, but as always, I advise that you…
