The narrowess of that fine line between victory and defeat was never more highlighted than yesterday’s SotD race. Yet again, we absolutely battered the market, as our 20/1 shot was sent off at 8/1 and despite being last well inside the final two furlongs, he swept down the outside in a flying finish and although he got to within less than a half length from the winner, he finished just out of the places in 4th. Cornwall-based trainer Jackie du Plessis has had a fantastic start to her training career saddling 9 winners from her 42 entries to date: a very healthy strike rate of 21.4% has brought in a level stakes profit of over 30pts and a further 9 of her horses have made the frame.
Yet, when she sends horses to Ludlow, they fare even better, notching up 4 wins and a place from just 7 attempts. Jackie has just the one runner today and that comes in the shape of St Georgina.
St Georgina was 5th over course and distance on her racecourse debut a fortnight ago and she’s sure to come on for that experience after previously tasting success whilst pointing. She won once and was placed twice in five attempts at that level.
She seems to jump soundly enough and she is expected to strip fitter for that previous outing and I’d be looking for her to reverse the form from that race where she was behind Danvilla and Double Silver.
As a relative unknown setting out late in her life (she’s 9 yrs old already!), we are offered some reasonable odds on her today, the best of which is 8/1 with bet365, which affords us quite a bit of room for an E/W bet today, so the call is 0.5pts E/W on St Georgina at 8/1 BOG with bet365, but you can always…
