Stat of the Day, 4th November

Fourth again, this time at 8/1, for our SotD pick yesterday, and the barren run continues. Only beaten two lengths.

I’m currently in the worst run of form I can remember, which extends to heavy losses at Santa Anita, and I’d recommend you take my advice lightly on this occasion, as I’m hardly in the mood for trying to find a winner.

I’m heading over to Ireland for a big (field) race, the…

4.05 Leopardstown

Nineteen runners contest this two mile flat handicap, and it will take a good bit of winning. As SotD’s form is so poor just now, I’ve gone with one at a price so we’ll at least have some fun and it might turn things around for us.

The aptly named Giants Quest is the horse I’m focusing on, due mainly to his consistency in placing. The Giant is a National Hunt horse, and he’s been placed in six of his seven attempts at a race over two miles. His only run on the flat saw him score over 1m6f, and he has a hand weight here too.

He’s been placed on three of the four occasions he’s encountered soft ground, and was placed the only time he raced here at Leopardstown.

He’s also won in a field of 22, so this 19 runner contest would scare him.

As you’d expect, it’s a very competitive contest, but I was still pleased to see 25/1 available with Boylesports. That’s a price worth taking – each way naturally – and let us hope for a run and some fun.
