David Pipe does very well here – it’s just up the road – and he’s especially adept with his hurdlers. That group have, over the past five seasons, recorded fifteen winners from 57 runners (26%). They’ve also snaffled blind backers 36.75 units of gravy.
Tomorrow, Pipe runs the French import, Amigo, in a handicap hurdle. This garcon ran a blinder at Sandown on his UK debut and I was there that day to see it. It was a race full of promise, and trip and ground will hold no fears to him. He’s dropping in class today as well, having competed in Class 2 company up the Esher hill.
It is possible this trip will stretch his stamina a touch, but he should be able to get a lovely tow into the race behind likely front-runner, Raduis Bleu and, if good enough, kick on down the interminable Chepstow home straight.
Pipe looks to have found a good opportunity here, and I’d expect Amigo to be a punters’ pal, at 11/2 (win only) with Paddy Power …
