Stat of the Day, 15th March 2013
Duneen Point was unable to reverse the placings with Bravo Riquet yesterday, but he did hold on to 3rd place (at an SP of 7/1) to bring in a small 0.38pts profit on the day.
We’ll be looking to build on that result today by taking a trip across the Irish Sea for an A/W handicap race for 4 yr olds and over. We’re expecting ten runners to line up to tackle a trip that’s a shade under 11 furlongs for the…
Of all the trainers with runners here at Dundalk tonight, Niall Madden’s figures probably look the best. Since the turn of 2011, he has notched up six winners from twenty attempts at handicap level for a level stakes profit of over 48pts with 12 successful E/W bets returning over 65pts. These impressive returns don’t tell the full story, however.
The fact is that Niall isn’t actually a prolific trainer here at Dundalk, he just has a course specialist on his hands in the form of Shake The Bucket.
Shake The Bucket was the runner in fifteen of those twenty races, in which he has only failed to make the first four home on one occasion and has only failed to make the frame four times. His record of five wins and 6 other places from the 15 races is remarkable and have seen him generate win profits of 36.33pts (+242.2% ROI) and E/W profits of 53.4pts (+178% ROI)
It’s a fantastic level of consistency at various distances between a mile and two miles, but his preference does seem to be for tonight’s 10.7 furlong trip where his record reads quite simply 11211. These four wins and a place over Course & Distance have rewarded his followers with win returns of 31.33pts (+626.6%) and E/W returns of a mere 41.2pts (+412%).
He has, admittedly, disappointed on his last couple of outings here, finishing 4th five weeks ago and then 7th last Friday, but both races were over an inadequate one mile trip and the step back up to the extra three furlongs is sure to play to his staying strengths more.
Anything like a return to his usual efforts over course and distance should be enough to send us into profit from the race, but his last two runs will have created a little doubt in the market and I’d hope that we’d all get around the 10/1 mark on him today.
I actually wrote this piece at 2.00am, before all the markets had formed, but I was able to take a 0.5pts E/W bet on Shake The Bucket at 11/1 BOG with Paddy Power. That’s a price I’m happy with, but he may well drift a little during the morning, so to avail yourself of the best of the prices, simply…
