Daily Dabble, 19th March 2013
A close but no cigar sort of start yesterday to the Daily Dabble. The first leg ran a blinder, with a horse I part-own, Vastly, finishing a length and a quarter second at 8/1. But alas, as perhaps was destined, the second leg failed by a neck and a nose to get second, meaning she could only manage fourth, and our 3.68/1 place double was sunk.
Onwards and upwards today then, though in truth it looks tricky…
3.40 Wolverhampton
Though not ideally drawn, Rawaafed might still get an easy lead here. He’s trained by Keith Dalgleish, who has an excellent record here at Wolves, and this fellow has yet to be out of the first three in four attempts here. In fact, he’s been third on all four tries! In his three attempts at around this trip, he’s been beaten less than two length each time. It was only when stepped up markedly to a mile and a half that he was well beaten.
That big step up did imply that he’s a little one-paced but, with his pace-pressing style, he might get first run on these and can hopefully at least get third again for us.
4.30 Exeter
This is competitive and I’m siding with – to some degree – the ‘obvious’ one in Storm Alert. A 6yo son of Karinga Bay, he’s still quite unexposed with just twelve runs to his name. In fairness, most have more to come on the basis that it’s a novices’ handicap hurdle, but our boy has been in spiffing form, hitting the frame on each of his last five runs. That sequence includes two wins in his last four starts, and those two include one over course and distance on today’s heavy ground.
He is stepping up to Class 4 but at least he’s fit and in form, which is more than can be said for some of his rivals.
Trainer’s daughter, Lucy Gardner, takes off a valuable five pounds here, and she has been on board for both his wins, from just four rides.
The double pays 40.25/1 with William Hill and BetVictor, and both are best odds guaranteed. The place only part would pay 3.37/1.
Back Rawaafed and Storm Alert in an each way double with BetVictor or William Hill, with the win part paying 40.25/1 (both Best Odds Guaranteed).
