Leac An Scail bagged a place for us in the race where Ryan Mania unfortunately got air-lifted to hospital (get well soon, Ryan), but Yellow Rosebud was disappointing. She travelled really well in the race, but found nothing, and I presume she wouldn’t let herself down on the ground. Onwards, and here are our two for today…
I’m taking a bit of a punt on a namesake here, Another Mattie, but it’s not for nominal reasons that I’m interested. In what looks a four horse race – it’s 25/1 bar four – our chap is 9/1 outsider of the quartet. But the odds on jolly is opposable, coming from the under-the-weather Donald McCain yard, and the second choice, Potomac, didn’t jump a hurdle first time out. He’s decent on the flat and might improve, but needs to.
The third choice, Cleve Cottage, is having his first run over hurdles and showed his best form in a heavy ground Carlisle bumper. This will be a somewhat different kettle of fish. That leaves us with Another Mattie, which has had four bumper races and performed to a fair level of ability, and comes from the Neil/Lucy Alexander father/daughter combination.
I’m doubling him up with …
Mazij has been in the frame six times out of eight over this course and distance, and he’s in great form. He won last time out over CD, and he was second the time before. Obviously, that means he’s up in the weights, but he’s not up in class – still racing in Class 6 this afternoon. He’s won off a rating as high as 72, so today’s 64 is well within his compass, and He’s carried bigger weight than this to victory.
Although the market isn’t screaming his chance, I think he must be thereabouts, and 5/1 seems perfectly fair.
