Frustrating again yesterday, as the money when west on Cavaleiro and Viking Warrior… well, he more like Freaking Worrier. 🙁
Today there might be better opportunities, ostensibly at least, beginning in the…
An odds on favourite in this novices hurdle, and little depth in behind. Mickie, the odds on jolly, beat Floral Spinner 14L over course and distance back in December, and that formed part of a frustrating run of four seconds in a row for the selection. So, if he was beaten that distance by the favourite, why have I nominated him?
Simple. Floral Spinner’s best form has been on fast ground; Mickie’s best form on soft. That win for Mickie was on soft; today the going is good. On Mickie’s sole run on good, he was beaten 17.5 lengths in a weak novices hurdle.
Floral Spinner has been in the frame in five of her six hurdle runs (and won two bumpers as well), and I fancy her to at least hit the board here, at about 4/1.
I’m pairing her up with …
I love these sort of horses. Trained by a no name trainer, and ridden by Mrs M Roberts (claiming five), Chesil Beach Boy is one you’d quickly look away from on cursory inspection. But look closer, and you’ll see that the horse has a fantastic record here at Wincanton, and he’s usually ridden by Mrs Roberts.
Indeed, his course form reads 21112. And his course form for Mrs Roberts reads 111. See why I like these types?!
This is a two mile Class 3 handicap hurdle on good ground, and Chesil Beach Boy races off a handicap mark of 130. As recently as his penultimate start, this fellow was second here under almost identical conditions (good to soft, Class 3, two miles), and ran another smart race last time in the mud at Newbury.
It looks competitive but nothing in the race has as reliable a profile as the pick, and he’s around 7/1.
The double pays 39/1 and the place part will return just about 4/1 with Stan James, best odds guaranteed.
Back Floral Spinner and Chesil Beach Boy in an each way double with Stan James with the win part paying 39/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
