Pelmanism was absolutely smashed into last night: he opened up at 6/1 on course, and was eventually sent off 4/1, having gone as low as 7/2. Disappointing for bigger hitters than us, then, that he failed to beat a single rival home. He missed the kick a little – which he normally does – but just couldn’t get into a race in which the front pair got out and stayed out.
It’s a typically competitive Saturday today, so we’ll have a dig at a typically competitive Saturday handicap, the…
He’ll be a new name to many, but Olly Stevens is a man to keep on the right side of. He’s only had nine runners to date, but has had two winners, and three seconds!
Today he runs a lass called School Fees, and she’s talented, especially in this grade. In point of fact, School Fees has run seven times in this Class 5 grade, and she’s been in the frame every single time.
Her Class 5 figs are 3233321, and though she looks to have struggled in three runs since she put that sequence together, they were all in Class 4, which has thus far been beyond her. Dropped back down to Class 5 for the first time this afternoon, and with the benefit of a run on the all-weather to get her match fit, things are back in her favour here.
The ground – good – and trip – six furlongs – look optimal too, and she’s a middle draw. She does have to lug top weight here, but that’s because she’s the best filly in the line up. She’s run well under nine stone-plus weights before, and jockey Ryan Moore is hardly a negative.
She’s 9/1 best odds guaranteed, and we’ll row in each way, and hope for a better run for our money than yesterday.
