A non-runner and a non-performer yesterday was disappointing, and it’s typical Monday fare today. As such, I’m taking a chance in one of the legs on a proven performer in the conditions, coming back off a layoff, in the…

Solemn likes soft ground, five furlongs and Class 4. He also finished third in this last year on his seasonal reappearance. He’s 14/1 in most places, and given his liking for the race set up, that might be too big.

If we’re still going, we’ll be cheering on a runner in the very next race, the…

Jim Boyle’s horses are in fine form recently, with four of his last six runners winning. He’s got Gigawatt here, and he’s a last time out winner on soft ground – today’s underfoot. Granted, that last time out win was last season in a Class 5 Brighton maiden, which probably doesn’t amount to much (second has won since, third placed twice).

But we know the trainer’s nags are going well, and we know he goes on the ground, and is progressive after just two runs. That’s probably enough positives for a bold showing in a race like this, and at 4/1 or thereabouts, he could amplify any returns we’ve got running on from the previous contest.

The double pays 74/1 and the place part is just over 7/1, which would be nice enough itself.

Back Solemn and Gigawatt in an each way double with BetVictor, the win part paying 74/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
