Daily Dabble, 16th April 2013
Disastrous yesterday. Both last. Good lord.
Onwards, and we’ll go back over hurdles for today’s dabble effort…
There’s been money for a few here, but the obvious one – and the one most likely to be better than this – is Irish Buccaneer. This fellow has been running over two miles, despite a pedigree which suggests three miles will be optimal. Today’s two-five should be spot on, and should eke out enough improvement to overcome the handicapper’s intervention.
He’s won on good to soft already, so the conditions ought to be fine and, though he’s not a huge price at around 7/2, he could well win and is odds on to get us at least a place to root for in the second leg.
The second leg will take us to Ireland at tea-time, in the…
An enormous field line up for this three mile handicap hurdle, and I’m looking at another fella who surely wants this step up in trip. Dangan Delight has been running well without winning at distances around two and a half miles, but he’d won a three mile point on heavy ground, strongly implying the further the better for him.
This afternoon we’ll see, as he takes on a couple of decent types in winning form, one of which is a Willie Mullins beast. They tend to make the market most times they run and have a less than one in eight strike rate overall.
Back to Dangan Delight, a chap who managed a close up second in a Grade 2 novice chase as recently as three starts back, and followed up with a third in a Grade 3 novice chase last time out. This reversion to hurdles – where he’s rated eleven pounds lower – looks to be in order to take advantage of a seemingly lenient handicap mark and, if he can translate recent chase form back to the smaller impediments, he’ll be thereabouts.
The double pays 41.75/1 and the place part is over 6/1.
