It’s a really frustrating run at the moment, as Irish Buccaneer finished second and should have won (McCoy waiting too late to produce a stayer in a race which turned into a sprint), and then Dangan Daylight was very well backed but failed to get a run.
Them’s the breaks, as I don’t need to tell you. We’ll try again today, starting with the…
They’re dropping like flies in this race, with four non-runners so far. That still leaves nine and therefore three places to go at. I’m siding with the Beverley specialist, Caranbola, who has won six of her eleven runs here (all over this trip). She’s also been placed on four other occasions, and gets in this decent race off bottom weight.
She goes fine on good to firm (four CD wins on it), and trainer Mel Brittain’s horses are flying right now. She’s 4/1 currently.
The second leg is this evening, and is the…
Very competitive stuff in a two mile handicap which, unlike many such races, should be run at a fair gallop. The most consistent, and another sneaking in off a feather weight, is Tartan Jura. He’s had two tries at this track and trip and finished third then second.
Perhaps tonight he can complete the podium set. In truth, he has found it hard to win – just one victory from fourteen starts – but he’s made the frame eight times and been in the first four on all of his eight all weather starts.
That sort of consistency is what we need to change our luck, and perhaps he can gain his own overdue success this evening. He’s 11/2 or thereabouts to do that.
The double pays 73/2 and the place part is around 11/4 with Paddy Power, whose odds are guaranteed to be best.
