Another never in it place yesterday, as Reaping The Reward was ridden like they had to go round again, and was a not closer third at the line. He returned 15/2 having been backed all morning, but then drifted alarmingly on course. It may have been the ground, or the trainer instructions or that might just be as good as he is.
Connections would have been pleased enough with this first run back off a nearly two year break, though.
Today, it’s a Sunday randomizer tilt at a big priced horse, in the…
The market here is framed around the favourite and top weight, Lower Hope Dandy, which is a 6/4 shot. But there are plenty of possibles against such a measly value proposition, and the one that catches my eye is from the in-form Peter Bowen yard. Indeed, Bowen has had two winners in the last three days from just five runners.
Mumbles Pier has done very little recently, with form figures of 068. But those runs are easy enough to forgive when you consider the ‘0’ was when returning from a year off the track; and the ‘6’ and ‘8’ were in races on heavy ground. All of Mumbles Pier’s winning has been on good or faster, conditions with which he’s reunited today.
Moreover, his chase rating is 106, whereas his hurdles rating is a lowly 86. He was third in a fast ground handicap hurdle off 105 just five runs back. Sneaking in here off the bottom weight, proven on the ground, and at the trip, Mumbles Pier might just run well at 16/1, Best Odds Guaranteed, with Paddy Power.
