Stat of the Day, 22nd April 2013
Well, we mangled the bookies yesterday and yet they still won. Mumbles Pier was smashed into 4/1 second favourite, even before the withdrawal of jolly, Lower Hope Dandy. He drifted a little on course to be 4/1 without LHD, but bungled his way around and weakened to be seventh after a poor jumping performance.
Today, an in-form filly in the…
Gladiatrix is our wager today. This lass has been in cracking form in sprint handicaps, either side of the seasonal break. Since winning her maiden over five and a half furlongs, she’s added four handicap victories from five subsequent starts. They’ve all been at a trip slightly shy of today’s six furlongs, but she’s bred to stay the extra hundred yards fine.
Her last win was on the Southwell fibresand in a Class 3, and it’s a Class 3 on good turf tonight. She’s won on good, firm and soft so there are no worries on that score, and her trainer, Rod Millman, is in good form. Excellent claimer, Michael Murphy, takes five pounds off her back despite her being near the bottom of the handicap today, and she looks primed for a decent run at odds of 6/1 generally. Each way the call.
