A frustrating day yesterday overall: Climaxfortackle duly obliged us in race 1 despite being friendless in the market. This filly drifted out from our morning price of 6/1 to a huge SP of 12/1, but fairly flew home late on to take 2nd place after a terrible start where she missed the break and then wandered around a bit leaving herself a good 10 lengths off the leaders.
This gave us a nice little wager on Seek The Fair Land, who also drifted out from 13/2 to an SP of 8/1. This time, the market was right and despite finishing only around 4 lengths behind the winner, this one was actually 9th of 9 runners having faded away in the final furlong.
I’m undeterred, though and I’ll try again today starting at tea time with the…
Where I think Sweeney Tunes can defy top weight to give us a good run for our money. This horse is in good form (13214 of late), having finished 4th in this season’s Irish National and acts well on today’s expected heavy ground, where his record reads 4132 and jockey Davy Russell tends to get the best out of him with a record of 131314 on board the selection. Five withdrawals this morning have seen his price cut to 7/1 generally, but at 1/4 odds for a place, that seems decent enough for us leading into the…
Which features the in-form Nicene Creed bidding for a hat-trick today. He has been raised 9lbs for his recent good form, but even a mark of 101 might not being enough to stop him here: he has won off a mark as high as 123 in the past and there are signs that this one is getting back to his best. He is likely to attract some support and go off as favourite, but the large field means we can still get a reasonable 6/1 (generally) and 1/4 odds for a place about this one. He seems to have had a new lease of life since moving to Sophie Leech’s yard and in particular since Paul Maloney started riding him.
The double pays 55/1 and the place part is 47/8 (5.875/1) with a host of firms, including Paddy Power (BOG, of course!).
Back Sweeney Tunes and Nicene Creed in an each way double with Paddy Power, the win part paying 55/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
