Daily Dabble, 30th April 2013
Another blank yesterday, despite Forceful Appeal winning Leg 1 at a fantastic 8/1. Unfortunately Choral Festival couldn’t keep up her end of the bargain, she looked handily placed with two furlongs to run, but weakened in the later stages to finish back in 8th some 5 lengths or so off the places. The winner, however, gives us a little hope and I’m looking to close out a difficult month with more runs like that one, starting with the …
Where my selection is Story Writer (15/2 generally, but 8/1 at Paddy Power). This one has been knocking on the door of late, finishing second in four out of five starts. The total margin of his defeats in those second places is just 5.5 lengths and this is after he has wandered about quite a bit! It is hoped that the cheekpieces applied for the first time today will help keep him a little straighter and guide him to a maiden victory. All being well, this will give us a shot at the…
Where Tiradia (11/1 generally, 12/1 with Hills) might look a more speculative punt, but this one is showing some signs of a return to form, making the frame on each of his last two starts. He was 4th of 15 at 7/1 last time out at Southwell (8 weeks ago) in a similar contest and since then the third place horse has gone on to win, as has the horses in 7th (twice) and 9th (twice), whilst those finishing in 5th and 10th have been placed once and twice respectively. If the form of that Southwell race continues to be proven, another top four finish should be within his grasp.
The double pays almost 110/1 and the place part is priced at 9/1, both with William Hill (BOG, of course!).
Back Story Writer and Tiradia in an each way double with William Hill, the win part paying 219/2 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
