A familiar tale of woe yesterday, I’m afraid. Story Writer drifted from 15/2 to 12/1 and didn’t see out the trip, weakened quite badly late on: finishing back in 7th place. This, of course, meant that the second race was a dead rubber for the sake of the double, but Tiradia ran really well apart from jumping to the right on occasions and was a nose away from making the frame, having been backed from 12/1 to 9’s.

Back to flat racing today with a tea time turf contest and an evening A/W affair starting in the…

4.30 Pontefract

Gioia Di Vita won on debut at Wolverhampton six months ago and was still full of running at the end of the race. I’d expect him to appreciate the extra half furlong here today and improve Marco Botti’s record at Pontefract where 55% of his runners make the frame. This horse is related to Dylan Thomas, Homecoming Queen and Queen’s Logic and should therefore turn out to be a decent sort. Currently 11/2 with Hills (1/5 odds for the place).

8.35 Kempton

Green Special has shown plenty of promise in his four races to date, finishing second twice and third in three Wolverhampton maidens over 7f. He was third over a mile last time out on handicap debut, having weakened in the final furlong and hung left under pressure. Running off the same mark of 65 today, dropping back to the usual 7f trip and application of blinkers should all help and he looks big at 14/1 BOG with Hills (1/5 odds for the place)

The double pays over 96/1 and the place part is priced at 7/1, both with William Hill (BOG, of course!).

Back Gioia Di Vita and Green Special in an each way double with William Hill, the win part paying 193/2 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
