Daily Dabble, 2nd May 2013
A decent day yesterday, as both selections finished second. Gioia Di Vita attracted some support and was backed in from our 11/2 into an SP of 9/2 and led into the final furlong before being headed. It looked like he was going to get swamped by the pack but held on gamely to that second spot. This meant that our place double was still alive with 14/1 shot Green Special, who looked every inch a winner but was narrowly beaten at the post. It was nevertheless a welcome relief to land a 7/1 place double.
I’m hoping for at least a similar outcome today starting with the…
Moon Melody is of interest to me here in this 3m 3f chase. A course and distance winner last September, who then spent the winter hurdling. Ran well last time out just five days ago when 3rd at Market Rasen and should come on for that run: the booking of Denis O’Regan is also a positive move, this one is usually ridden by claiming jockeys. Currently 7/1 with Bet365 (1/5 odds for the place).
Showboating is a very consistent sort with a 52.4% place strike rate (11 top 3 finishes from 21) since the turn of 2012 and comes here in good form on a run of results reading 21622. Both of those last two runs were on turf off today’s mark off 77. He was slowly away last time out and will need to be on the ball a little more today, but looks a decent prospect at a widely available 13/2 (1/5 odds for the place)
The double pays 59/1 and the place part is priced at just over 9/2 (4.52/1), both with Bet365 (BOG, of course!).
Back Moon Melody and Showboating in an each way double with Bet365, the win part paying 193/2 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
