A poor show yesterday as firstly Dashing David was disappointing to say the least, he didn’t give any kind of performance at all and slipped back through the field to finish 7th of 8, some 12 lengths off the winner. This was then followed up by a marginally better display from Annecdote fifteen minutes later, she ran well initially and was leading with one furlong of the mile left to run. At this point she was headed and subsequently beaten, as she faded quite badly to finish 6th of 8, eventually going down by a good seven lengths.

We’re well overdue a pair of decent runs and that’s what I’m expecting od today’s selections starting with the…

3.50 Chester

Where I’ve gone with Dr. Red Eye. This one is a strong front-runner, well drawn in stall 2 today. He loves tight left-handed tracks, having won at both Catterick and Epsom in the past and he was second over C&D here last September. If he blasts out as expected, he’ll take some catching and eventually overtaking and the 7/1 BOG (15/2 with Stan James) generally available looks good value. Our second race is the…

4.50 Lingfield

Mafi is generally a 6/1 shot this morning, but Coral are offering 13/2, though. This 5yr old has only won on three of his thirty starts to date, but all three wins have been here at Lingfield over course & distance. His C&D record reads 12611573, three wins and two places from eight for 29pts profit at SP and 34pts at Betfair SP. Last seen here a fortnight ago when finishing 3rd at 25/1 and beaten by less than two lengths over course and distance, he was only headed late on that day and runs off the same mark of 66 today. Robert Havlin takes the ride again today, having secured a win and three places from just five rides on the horse.

The double pays just over 58/1 and the place part is priced at just under 11/2 (5.33/1), both with Stan James (BOG, of course!).

Back Dr. Red Eye and Mafi in an each way double with Stan James, the win part paying 117/2 (58.5/1) (Best Odds Guaranteed)
