Daily Dabble, 14th May 2013
It was a good start to the week yesterday, as George Chaloner gave a patient and well-timed ride on Cosmic Halo to hit the front at just the right time to hold on to a one-length victory at 9/2 (we were on at 11/2, though) and this sent us into race 2 looking for a nice double. The market seemed to think we were on the way, as they backed Duroble Man in from our 6/1 into 100/30, but he was beaten 2f out. Thankfully he plugged on to finish third, just a half-length ahead of the pursuing pack to give us the consolation prize of a 3.62/1 place double.
I really feel like we’re knocking hard on the door and today’s selections have every chance of making that breakthrough, starting with the…
Highland Love is the pick here. He really seems to like running at Sedgefield as a win and two seconds from just four course & distance races will testify. He was fourth in the other. He has gone well here in the past off a mark of 101, so shouldn’t be over troubled by today’s 100 rating. He is currently available around the 6/1 mark. (13/2 with BetVictor)
Our second race is the 6.20 Southwell
Where Shrewd Investment will hopefully live up to his name. He won well last time out, when making his debut for his new yard and it was also his first attempt at chasing. He finished very strongly in that race, coming home by over 20 lengths, so I wouldn’t expect today’s extra furlong to be too much of a burden. Today’s race doesn’t look much tougher than that lat outing and he’s a hardy type with a couple of point to point wins under his belt. Generally an 11/2 shot I think he has every opportunity of recording back to back successes.
The double pays almost 48/1 (191/4) and the place part is priced at 23/6 (3.83/1), both with BetVictor (BOG, of course!).
Back Highland Love and Shrewd Investment in an each way double with BetVictor, the win part paying 191/4 (47.75/1) (Best Odds Guaranteed)
