It was one step backwards yesterday, as we failed to get a return from our double. Firstly Highland Love drifted from our 6/1 advisory out to an SP of 10/1, but then proceeded to run a blinder. He had every chance of winning and was leading narrowly approaching the last, which he made a complete hash of. Fortunately, the jockey was able to get him going ahead and he rallied to recover to take 3rd place.

So, the place part of the double was still alive, but Shrewd Investment failed to live up to his name, by making a similar mess to the last fence and moved back from 1st to 4th in the blink of an eye.

It was a close call yesterday, but not close enough and I’m hoping for better today starting with the…

3.05 Fontwell

Hi Note has a decent record of 1232 over course and distance and all four runs have been where there has been some cut in the round, so today’s conditions shouldn’t trouble her unduly. She is admittedly top weight today, but this event looks much easier on paper than the type of races she has been contesting of late, including a very good 2nd to Dodging Bullets at Cheltenham in the autumn. Best priced at 6/1 this morning.

Our second race is the 6.00 Perth

Lucematic has been in decent, consistent form pretty much throughout her short eight-race career to date. She has won three times so far and has also managed a further three top three finishes, whilst continuously attempting longer trips. Her recent runs have suggested that even 2m6f wasn’t long enough and it is expected that she’ll relish the chance to tackle 3 miles today on a track where she was 2nd just 3 weeks ago. This one is also generally available at the 6/1 mark

The double pays 48/1 today and the place part is priced at just over 23/6 (3.84/1), both with Stan James (BOG, of course!).

Back Hi Note and Lucematic in an each way double with Stan James, the win part paying 48/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
