Another one of those “oh, so close” frustrating days yesterday. Firstly Anderiego ran a really good race, as I hoped/expected he would and came home 3rd at 10/1 just a length and a half from the winner. He was staying on at the end, but not getting any closer, but he did well to hold off the pursuing pack. This put us in with a fighting chance of a decent sized place double, but English Summer was as his name suggests, a bit of a letdown. Not that he ran badly, but he didn’t seem to keen to pass his rivals and despite also staying, he finished 4th at 12/1, just a neck away from landing an almost 11/1 place double.
So, back to the drawing board for another crack at this, starting with the…
Best priced at 5/1 Joshua Tree is a little on the shorter side compared with what we generally select for the double, but I can see this one winning this race today, never mind just grabbing a place. This race tends to be won by 6 yr olds and over from the top end of the market and our horse fits both criteria. The price on offer is quite generous, considering he’s the class horse in the race and has the best form on soft ground. Couple this to the fact that there’s only eight runners and the favourite has been withdrawn, I can’t see three horses getting home before him, so at the very worst, we should have the place part of our bet going on to the…
Captain Scooby is one of those horses that has really paid for himself over the years. He has won 11 races from 77 for level stakes profits of almost 30pts and he has made the frame on approximately a third of his outings, but he really loves running here at Hamilton. His record at this track is three wins and a place from six races and his record over course and distance is 14113, all coming when there’s been some cut in the ground,as there no doubt will be tonight. I fully expect him to be involved at the finish and I’m surprised to see him available as high as the 14/1 mark
The double pays 89/1 today and the place part is priced at 8/1, both with William Hill (BOG, of course!).
Back Joshua Tree and Captain Scooby in an each way double with William Hill, the win part paying 89/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
