Daily Dabble, 18th May 2013
The Daily Dabble seems to be firmly stuck in “one step forward, one step back” mode: every time we get close to landing the double seems to be followed up by a pair of poor results. Yesterday continued that pattern as firstly Joshua Tree never really got into the action and then weakened in the run in to finish back in 6th, almost 8 lengths away from the places.
This meant that the late race was a formality, but it would have been nice to get at least a place there. Captain Scooby ran well enough to finish within 3 lengths of the winner, but his inability to find a bot more late on cost him and us the chance of making the frame. Such was the competitiveness of the race, he was back in 7th place, but only a length and a half from the money.
But we’ll dust ourselves off and go again this afternoon starting with the…
Icanmotor is the selection here, the presence of a short priced favourite means that this one is best priced at 11/2 Due to her being off the track for six months, we have to take a bit of a leap of faith regarding her fitness, but if she can get close to reproducing her form from last winter, she has every chance here today. She was second over course and distance back in October and doesn’t seem to be carrying too much weight on her reappearance, in what doesn’t look a great race on paper (a shame they run on grass). I’m hopeful of at least a place going on to the…
This is a very competitive affair, but I think Spillway will take all the beating today. This horse comes here in great form, adding a recent handicap win at Sandown over today’s trip to two prior A/W victories and still looks to be on the rise. Never out of the frame in all five starts, this one should be there or thereabouts once again and looks an interesting prospect at around the 13/2 mark
The double pays 51/1 today and the place part is priced at just over 4/1 (4.04/1 to be exact!), both with William Hill (BOG, of course!).
Back Icanmotor and Spillway in an each way double with William Hill, the win part paying 51/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
(The double only pays 47/1 with Bet365, but their better place terms in the Newbury race mean the place double pays 4.78/1 there.)
