Daily Dabble, 19th May 2013
Another blank day yesterday in a day of frustration, I’m afraid. Icanmotor looked set for a place, but managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory late on when surrendering 3rd place on the run in, when there seemed to be little danger. There is a sense that she was eased down a little too soon. This was a little annoying to say the least and I was further bemused when Spillway ran a decent race, staying on strongly to hold onto third place, but a withdrawal of another horse reduced the race to 7 runners and we therefore didn’t get a place there either!
I’m hoping for a bit more “luck” / success with today’s offerings which start with the…
Green Bank ended his last campaign with a very creditable second place at Taunton over 3m 0.5f. he seemed like he still had something in reserve that day and was staying on well at the end. His yard has tried him at progressively longer trips and he looks like he has performed better the longer he’s been asked to run, so it is hoped that the step up to 3m 3f today should suit him. His trainer Charlie Longsdon has a 21.4% strike rate here over the last couple of years, thanks to nine wins from forty-two (level stakes profits of 21pts at Betfair SP) and eighteen (42.86%) of those runners have made the frame. Today’s jockey is Kielan Woods, who not only takes a valuable 3lbs off today, but also has a great record here with 7 wins from 15 (+43pts at BFSP), with three of those winners coming from just seven rides for Mr Longsdon. If all goes to plan, the 8/1 on offer should give us a decent stake for race 2 which is the…
Valbucca represents the in form Willie McCreery whose yard is flying at present. He has saddled up four winners and four placed horses from sixteen in the last fortnight with the winners producing 47.5pts profit at SP. The horse itself comes here on a hat trick, having closed last season with a C&D win here in October and he then won on hos seasonal reappearance over the same trip at The Curragh just 13 days ago, so he’s in fine nick. Mr McCreery is using a 5lb claimer SB Kelly today to counteract the hike in weights for that latest win, but this trainer is very adept at using his claimers, so I don’t see that as an issue. At a current best price of 8/1,he looks a decent bet for at least a place.
The double pays 80/1 today and the place part is priced at 8/1 both with Bet365 (BOG, of course!).
Back Green Bank and Valbucca in an each way double with Bet365, the win part paying 80/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
