Once again it was another case of half a job done yesterday, as Kingscroft ran well to take 2nd place at 6/1. If he’d have won with a clearer run, we’ll never know, but he at least kept up his end of the bargain. Unfortunately all his hard work was undone some twenty minutes later as Danzoe failed to shine. Despite only finishing six lengths away from the winner, he never posed any threat and was finally placed in 11th of the 13 runners.
We’re still knocking on the door, though, and hopefully we’ll get two runners to both perform on the same day starting with the…
Gilzean has progressed well under Alex Hales and has demonstrated bags of stamina by running well at 3 miles-plus on heavy ground. He was an impressive winner at Fontwell last time out, winning by a good ten lengths and still going away at the close. He will relish both the step up in trip and a bit more firmness in the ground and despite a 9lb hike in the weights (more than fair based on that last run) I’d expect him to go close (if not win) again today. Currently available at around the 6/1 mark, he should give us a good crack at the…
Jim Boyle’s horses have been flying at Kempton this year, with five of his thirteen runners going on to win. Tonight he is represented by Intomist who is priced as high as 13/2 (Stan James), a horse which comes here in great form himself. Back to back victories in large fields (14 runners and 17 runners) mean he shouldn’t be too fazed at lining up against 13 more rivals today. Last Thursday’s win was in an apprentice handicap, so he escapes any penalty for that victory and actually drops down a Class today. The only negative is his wide draw, but he tends to be quick away from the stalls, so should grab himself a reasonable position for a late surge.
The double pays over 51/1 (51.5/1) today and the place part is priced at over 19/4 (4.775/1) both with Stan James (BOG, of course!).
Back Gilzean and Intomist in an each way double with Stan James, the win part paying 103/2 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
