In what now seems to be becoming a daily tale of frustration and woe, so yesterday followed suit. I really fancied the chances of Gilzean yesterday, but he was withdrawn less than 2 hours before his race leaving us with a straightforward 1pt E/W bet on Intomist at 13/2 BOG. As it was, both horse and jockey (Nathan Allison) had a blinder. Running from a terrible draw (14 of 14), the horse was kept covered up but well in touch until switched out left two furlongs from home. He quickly made his way to take the lead and ended up winning at 7/1 by the best part of two lengths going away.
A decent 8.75pts profit there, but hopefully we’ll get two runners to both perform today starting with the…
Chandlery is an interesting at around the 8/1 mark, (9/1 at Stan James), a former C&D winner of a Group 2 race, as a 2yr old who then missed all of his next season through injury. He has returned this term to compete in a couple of listed events and has, admittedly, failed to beat a rival home off marks of 108 and 105. He runs off 100 today which is probably a more realistic figure and this is a considerably weaker affair. The booking of Richard Hughes is a bonus here and if Chandlery can get anywhere near the type of run we know he’s capable of, then we should be well set for the…
Where Poetic Verse is priced as high as 7/1 (generally) in attempt to land a four-timer. This horse has come on leaps and bounds since being asked to tackle the longer trips and a further step up to 1m6f shouldn’t undo him today. He has of course been raised in the weights as a consequence of his recent form, but that has been reflected in this price, making him an attractive E/W proposition, especially as he seems to want further than the mile and a half distance of his hat-trick of wins: this one doesn’t look like he’s peaked just yet, but time will tell.
The double pays 79/1 today and the place part is priced at over 11/2 (5.72/1) both with Stan James (BOG, of course!).
Back Chandlery and Poetic Verse in an each way double with Stan James, the win part paying 79/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
