A good day yesterday, if not quite a great one. Ruler of The World proved he was an out-and-out stayer in The Derby, finishing strongest of all and pulling clear late on to secure a 7/1 win (we’d got on at 9’s!). This gave us a few shillings to play on Dolatulo who duly finished 2nd at 11/2 to a short priced favourite. No tales of hard luck etc, as our pick was actually pretty soundly beaten by 14 lengths, but did at least stay on gamely to hold on to that second spot.
The fact that we’d got 8/1 earlier in the day meant we did at least grab ourselves a nice 7.45/1 place double and we look to go one better today starting in the…
Burnt Again is one of those horses who is always there or thereabouts and his record of finishing in the first Four home in all but one of his last eight races is testament to this. He finished fourth here almost four weeks ago, but the bare result doesn’t show how well he actually ran that day, as his race was ruined by getting badly hampered on a couple of occasions. There’s still some scope for improvement in this one and 6/1 represents a decent opportunity for us.
Rich Buddy is the pick here: had a good season last time around winning twice inside five races over trips similar to today’s 3m affair, He goes well over hurdles and looks like he’s a serious contender today at a very attractive 8/1. He’s not overburdened by weight and the ground won’t be an issue, nor should he lack stamina. It’s not a great race in truth, so shouldn’t take too much winning, especially as there are no doubts whether the favourite will see the trip out.
The double pays 62/1 today and the place part is priced at just over 9/2 (4.72/1), both with Bet365 (BOG, of course!).
