Stat of the Day, 13th June 2013
Close but no cigar yesterday, as Red Tyke ran second. It’s a rare each way effort this afternoon, as we oppose a shortie in the….
4.45 Nottingham
Morpheus is a half-brother to Frankel and is one of the first lot of horses to run from the late Sir Henry Cecil’s Warren Place stable. For those reasons as much as form, he’s odds on in what looks a warm enough maiden for the track.
In opposition, though, is a horse which has better form than the bare finishing position might suggest. Shades Of Silver ran in one of the hottest maidens of the season last time. The winner, Centurius, ran second in Listed company next time; the second, Sublimation, won next time; the third, Empirical, ran second in a decent maiden next time; the fourth has been second on both subsequent starts; the fifth, Brass Ring, has won his two subsequent starts; the seventh, Lemon Pearl, has been placed in two subsequent runs; and, the eighth and ninth have both won since.
Shades Of Silver was sixth in that field.
On his debut last season, he was too green and ran second last. Eleven of the thirteen horses which beat him in that race have won since!
On handicap ratings, Morpheus is rated 82. Centurius, which won Shades Of Silver’s last race, is now rated 97. He beat our pick by less than eight lengths, and is rated fifteen pounds superior to Morpheus.
Shades Of Silver is still learning his game, but I expect him to step forward again tonight, and I think 10/1 is a big price. Each way this time, best odds guaranteed with most bookies. Use the link below to check the latest odds…
