Nothing doing yesterday, I’m afraid as Platinum was having to be ridden from a long way out before being outpaced in the final two furlongs, eventually finishing 5th at 5/1 (we’d taken 6’s). This meant Tidentime’s performance was for my personal pride only and I managed to salvage a little something from the earlier wreckage.

He ran far better than the market expected him to (sent off at 11/1, after we’d selected him at 13/2) and despite being unable to quicken late on, was a gallant 3rd, just three parts of a length behind the eventual winner. A small bit of respite for the singles backers, but another blank for the DD.

Onto today and a tea time double which starts with the….

5.10 Musselburgh
West Leake Hare hadn’t won for almost two years before winning at Catterick last Saturday, although he had been knocking on the door of late since a change of trainer. He looks feasibly treated despite a 3 lb rise for that victory and he can effectively race off a lower mark with an apprentice’s claim taken into account after winning last week’s better quality race at Catterick. Today is a slightly longer trip, but if the jockey can get him to take the shortest route today, he has every chance. he expended more than he needed to last out running wide. The even money favourite is afar from a certainty and the 15/2 on offer from Stan James looks excellent value today.

6.05 Leicester
This race has the potential of being one of those where the front-runners burn each other out and if that happens, Methaaly is more than capable of taking advantage. He won twice on the A/W over the winter and won again at Windsor last time out (6th May). Despite a 4lb rise in the weights today, he is till well treated on previous form, running here off 59, twelve of his sixteen career wins have come off higher marks than this and he cannot be ruled out here. Has won over C&D in the past and if things fall his way, 13/2 looks a reasonable price here.

The double pays 217/4 (54.25/1) today and the place part is priced at 17/4 (4.25/1), both with Stan James (BOG, of course!).

Back West Leake HareMethaaly in an each way double with Stan James, the win part paying 54.25/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
