Daily Dabble, 18th June 2013
The recent run of a placer with an unplaced runner continued unabated yesterday, I’m afraid, as our double went down at the first obstacle. Needy McCredie failed to do the business for us, despite an excellent profile for the race. She had no friends in the market, as she drifted from our 17/2 right out to a huge 22/1 and the layers were spot on, for she only beat one of her 8 rivals home.
Rivas Rhapsody, however, ran very well later on in the evening, finishing 2nd at 8/1 despite carrying top weight and was only beaten late into the final furlong. There was a small crumb of comfort for those of you backing the E/W singles, but for our records it’s another 2pts lost.
I’m swerving Ascot today for the double, it looks far to tricky, but I’ve a couple this evening for you, starting with…
5.20 Thirsk
At 8 yrs of age, Dhhamaan is approaching the veteran stages of his career, but he comes here off the back of a gutsy pillar to post victory in a course and distance handicap 12 days ago. Today’s 7f trip has seen him notch up 13 winners from 64 attempts, a decent 20%+ strike rate and he’s got a record of three wins from eight here at Thirsk. We backed today’s favourite West Leake Hare recently and he was disappointing and doesn’t justify favouritism off the back of that run and that might just open the door for us at odds of up to 7/1.
7.10 Kempton
Diplomatic has a good strike-rate of 5/18 at this track and on same mark as for C&D win in January. He didn’t look himself back on turf at Yarmouth last time but has to be respected for both his win record and his place (57%) record here at his favoured track. The booking of Kieran Fallon has to be seen as a positive move too and makes the current 9/1 on offer look very appealing.
The double pays 74/1 BOG today with BetVictor, with the place element running at just under 13/2 (6.475/1!)
Back Dhhamaan & Diplomatic in an each way double with BetVictor, the win part paying 74/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
