Daily Dabble, 20th June 2013

Well, the door we’ve been ferociously knocking on creaked open a little for us yesterday, as both our selections ran similar sorts of races, even if they were totally different races. We started with The Fugue, who took her place in a group 1 event at Royal Ascot. She ran her own race and stayed on strongly to take 3rd place at 13/2, she never really got close to the front two, but she did enough to hold off the favourite Camelot to give us a shot at the evening race.

That race was a mere Class 4 affair on Polytrack, but Hayley Turner got everything she could out of If So and just as in race 1, she never really looked like winning, but was staying on strongly at the end and also secured a third place finish, 8/1 was paid this time.

This pair of fillies landed us a 5.825/1 place double, which came as some welcome respite from all the near misses and I hope to achieve back to back success with a pair of back to back races this evening, which all starts with the…

8.25 Lingfield

Speedyfix comes here bang in form having taken advantage of a recent slide in the weights. He has made the frame in each of his last six starts (122231) and has won once and been placed once from three attempts over course and distance. He looks to have a decent chance of continuing that sequence of placed runs here tonight and is currently available as high as 6/1 in places.

8.55 Lingfield

A trappy affair here with plenty of horses with course victories under their belts, but I’ve gone with Reginald Claude. Two wins and two places from just eight Lingfield appearances and a record of 1163 over C&D makes him an excellent prospect this evening. His two C&D wins came off marks of 55 & 59 and his 3rd placed finish came off 63, yet he runs off 58 tonight, so is favourably weighted to get back to winning ways. The return of Rachael Kneller as jockey is a positive for me, as she’s also 1163 on board him. Her 5lb claim could make all the difference as this horse returns to his favoured surface after some decent efforts on the turf. Whilst the current 6/1 on offer in some places isn’t over generous, it does look at least fair.

The double pays 41/1 BOG today with Paddy Power, with the place element running at just under 7/2 at 3.4/1.

Back Speedyfix & Reginald Claude in an each way double with either of Paddy Power or Coral, the win part paying 41/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
