Daily Dabble, 30th June 2013
The best word to describe yesterday’s picks is “poor“. I was right to oppose the hot favourite in the Irish Derby, but that’s roughly where I stopped being right. Ruler of the World did indeed flop but not as badly as our selection Sugar Boy who never looked like getting involved and finished last of all nine runners.
My bad day at the office was concluded by Rhagori Aur’s dismal showing at Doncaster later in the evening. 7th of 8 was the bare result and probably a fair one to boot. He weakened badly with two furlongs of five still to run and made a steady move back through the pack.
It’s the last day of June already, so I’m hoping to wrap the month up in style starting with the…
Dorback comes here looking for the hat-trick after successes at Leicester and Lingfield, where he dictated both races from the off. He is best when allowed to take control and although this is a tougher contest than he’s faced of late, he’s in such good heart that he can’t be ruled out. Stall 6 isn’t the best of draws, but it’s nowhere near the worst. It just means he’ll need to be quick way, if he wants the rail, but he does at least possess that burst of speed and if allowed to lead, could be hard to pass. Current odds of around 5/1 aren’t generous, but do seem pretty fair and should hopefully give us some play in the…
Presto Volante comes here in good nick, having won last time out at Lingfield on his A/W debut, where he hosed up by five lengths in a manner that suggested that even today’s 7lb rise in the weights won’t be enough to stop him at odds of around 9/2. That latest win was his third in five starts, adding to a win at Chepstow and a course and distance victory here at Salisbury in October. If he can continue his recent progress, he’s every chance of taking this one.
Today’s double pays 32/1 BOG today with BetVictor with the place element is a shade over 13/4 at 3.275/1.
