Monday Musings: Updates
It’s a quiet Monday, after a busy Saturday, and there’s little I can add to the general feelings about the weekend of racing. Specifically, I agree that Lethal Force has now proved himself to be the pre-eminent six furlong sprinter in Europe; and I agree that is does seem like there were too many big meetings on Saturday (though I’d like to see the attendance figures before squealing too loudly about it).
Elsewhere on the weekend, and Ben Aitken’s excellent Badly Drawn Horse enjoyed a second big success as Field Of Dream represented his small ‘to follow’ list, along with Redvers, in the twenty runner Bunbury Cup. The former won at 14/1, while the latter finished a close up fifth.
All of Ben’s posts can be found by hovering over the ‘Free Tips’ menu item, and clicking the ‘Badly Drawn Horse’ sub-menu item. Well done Ben!
Now, a quick toot of my own flute as well. I nominated a horse called Law Enforcement at 28/1 in the opener at Newmarket on Saturday, observing,
Law Enforcement carries top weight, but so he should having won a Group 1 last year! This season he’s run three races in three different countries: he was fifth in a Group 2 in Meydan; then ran down the field on unsuitably soft ground at Coloogne; and finally, he ran mid-division in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.
It’s not too hard to make excuses for any of those runs, and he might be worth taking a chance with. I’ve had a little nibble at 28/1.
He returned just 9/1, which was probably about right, so those who also had a little nibble would have pretty much set fair for the rest of Saturday, and in clover if they followed Ben’s advice later.

A couple of other updates for you. The Geegeez Superleague is still performing with credit in the overall League of Leagues for the British Champions Series fantasy racing competition. We’re currently in fourth place, though with reasonable gaps emerging between each position at the top it looks tough for us to improve on last year’s second place overall. What it does show is what a fine group of tipsters you are!
****
We head into the second half of our own July Tipping League here on Geegeez, and there have been some exceptional performances to date. Excellent efforts from Jim and TopCat, showing a profit of £665.63 and £709 respectively are made to look moderate by a simply outstanding performance thus far from Trendy Guy, who has recorded a profit of £1,385.85 so far, with a strike rate of one in three.
What’s staggering is that that record includes a 20/1 winner, but also a 28/1 second, a 20/1 second, and – gulp – a 50/1 third!
If you’re registered for the Tipping League, you can follow all the other tipsters by clicking on their name. To prevent copycat tipping, however, you can see their stake or bet type (win / each way).
If you want to join in the fun – perhaps have a practice between now and the end of July, then you’ll be ready for the August competition – you can sign up here (click the ‘Register’ button).
NOTE, in order to be eligible for the free bet prizes you must have a BetVictor account. You can get one of those here, if you don’t already have one: BetVictor.

It’s fairly quiet on the big meeting front now until Glorious Goodwood, which starts on 30th July. We will, of course, have a full service for that meeting nearer the time, including the looooooong full meeting previews some of you enjoy!
In the meantime, there is of course very good tipping content on site every day, including Stat of the Day, Daily Dabble, and the Placepot Picks. Incidentally, I tend to do a lightweight review of the meeting wherever the placepot is, so if you’re interested in my thoughts, do check out the placepot picks page, whether that’s your kind of bet or not.
And, as you’ll probably know by now, there is a racecards and results service too.
Now, on the subject of the racecards, I’ve been spending a large part of the weekend ‘speccing’ Phase 3, which is the one where the good stuff starts to come in. The problem with a project like this is that one has to walk before running. That’s meant that we’ve had to do a heck of a lot of ground work just to get to a point of relative parity with some of the other race card services out there.
But it’s always been my plan to make the service on here the most comprehensive – and free – provision on the internet. And Phase 3 should start to deliver that objective. I will, naturally, let you guys be the judge of that, but I think you’re going to like it.
Let me put it like this: I currently use about four different sources to evaluate the form. After Phase 3, I will be using one: geegeez.co.uk! 🙂
It’s a chunky piece of work and might take a little while, but I’ve got a fantastic developer on the case, and I hope we’ll be able to reveal the first parts before the end of the month. Stay tuned!

And that’s about it for a hot and sticky Monday. Just two more things you might be interested in.
Firstly, the new geegeez.co.uk syndicate is now full, and we have an exciting Beneficial gelding being broken in and light cantered just now. He’ll be ready to run by the end of the year, in National Hunt Flat races, and we’re super-stoked to see how he goes.
Tomorrow, Khajaaly, the most loyal servant of the geegeez syndicates to date, has a meeting with the auctioneer at Ascot’s Brightwell sales. I hope he is found a new home that will reinvigorate his enthusiasm, which seems to have waned a little in recent months. But he won three races for us, and was placed in the first four on another twelve occasions! We all wish him well.
And on Wednesday, I’ll be at Worcester, where the other geegeez syndicate horse, Priceless Art, will be contesting a two and a half mile handicap hurdle. We’ve not quite got to the bottom of his optimal conditions yet – he has had a few issues as well – but he’ll be running off top weight, and he showed plenty of ability on his first run for us at the same track five weeks or so ago. Fingers crossed.
The other thing to say is that I have a little holiday booked at the beginning of August. During that time (August 2nd to 10th), my own contributions on here will be a little light – including a temporary postponement of the placepot feature, most likely. Hope that’s ok.
Have a great week, and try to enjoy some of the sunshine if you get a chance!
Matt
