Still no respite for me here, I’m afraid to say. Vital Evidence was last of three home and although the margin of defeat wasn’t a true reflection of the race (Ryan Moore eased down once the game was up), he was still well beaten.

Stellar Express came closer to landing a blow for us, finishing second to the well-backed favourite (and highlighted danger!) Ajmany who went off at 5/6 in the end.

Nevertheless, it’s another point lost and one more to hopefully be recouped today, starting with the…

4.55 Ripon

It’s hard to look beyond Wadacre Sarko, despite him having gone up a total of 13lbs for his recent exploits, winning back to back contests at Beverley and Hamilton, both over today’s trip. Prior to those victories, he had just finished third twice on the bounce and with a record reading 43311 from his career on turf so far, he still looks to be progressing nicely. he’s far less exposed than his rivals here today and he won so convincingly last time out that today’s 6lb rise shouldn’t be enough to stop him. I’m on at 5/2.

6.15 The Curragh

The UK has provided the last four winners of the Irish Oaks and today’s race looks a two-horse affair to me with Riposte and Talent being the main protagonists. If Talent runs to the same level that saw her take the Epsom Oaks, then I think she’ll be unstoppable. Talent has a better turn of foot than her rivals and provided she’s not left with too much to do in a tactical encounter, the odds of up to 11/4 look quite big to me for a runner from a yard having a really good season. (20% strike rate and a 40pt profit at level stakes from just 204 runners at all odds).
