Daily Dabble, 21st July 2013
Talent was very disappointing in the Irish Oaks yesterday trooping home in last place, but it was pretty immaterial anyway as Wadacre Sarko has already been beaten.
Bidding for the hat trick, he allowed the eventual winner an easy six lengths or so lead before attempting to reel him in and although our selection finished strongly, this 11/8 fav ( we took 5/2) could only get to within a length and a half at the finish for 2nd place.
The clock is ticking for the future of the Daily Dabble, so a couple of winners would be nice, hopefully starting with the…
Jubilee Dancer is absolutely flying at present and this filly looks set to complete her hat trick after back to back wins over 6 furlongs both here at Redcar and also over at Doncaster. I wouldn’t expect the drop down to 5f to be too much of a hindrance for her as she has already showed a swift turn of foot when making all last time out. She’s up 6lbs for her recent wins, but I think she’s still got a few pounds in hand here today and looks a good bet at odds of up to 7/4.
So Young is clearly the class horse in the race, but at 7/4 I can’t back him, especially as he’s unproved on such quick ground. His presence, however, means there’s value elsewhere on this card and my preference is for Steps To Freedom, who has won at Grade 2 level over hurdles and possesses enough natural Flat speed to be quick between obstacles. In fact, he was only 2 lengths off the winner in a 10-furlong listed contest as recently as April this year on the back of an A?W iwn at Dundalk over that same trip. He comes here on the back of two runner-up finishes in chases and although he officially has a bit to find with So Young now back hurdling, the trip and the going are to his advantage and makes the 7/2 that’s available in places look decent value indeed.
