Stat of the Day, 21st July 2013
The Barzalona / bin Suroor partnership did themselves and SotD proud once again yesterday. They teamed up on five horses, winning three and gaining a runner-up slot. The last of those wins was our selection Thair, who came home as the 11/4 fav (we got on at 4/1!) and stayed on well to win by half a length, despite conceding chunks of weight all round.
No action from the dynamic duo today (may be a couple on Wednesday!), but I’ve another partnership for you in today’s…
Readers of the Daily Stat Pack will know that this year, David O’Meara has trained seven winners from thirty runners here at Redcar, but that’s not the whole story. There’s a strike rate of 23.33% producing profits of 23.32pts or an ROI of 77.73%.
If we look at this runners priced at 6/1 or under (ie SotD territory) that record improves to 6/16 (37.5%) for 17.8pts (+111%).
David’s go-to jockey at the moment is Daniel Tudhope, who is also having a great season here at Redcar, riding six winners from eighteen, winning 1 in 3 and making the frame in 50% of his rides here. He has generated profits of 28.2pts here this term, an ROI of over 156% and he is 5/15 for 28.1pts (+187% ROI) on board Mr O’Meara’s horses.
Incidentally, when Daniel’s mounts are strong in the market ie 6/1 or under, his record here at Redcar is 5/11 for 15.6pts (+142%)
The trainer has two runners at the meeting today, whilst the jockey also has two rides, but they only team up the once with Cross The Boss.
Cross The Boss ran well on his first appearance for the yard after switching from Ben Haslam, for whom he won over 7f last year. On hos first outing for the O’Meara yard, he was narrowly beaten by a neck at Newcastle and has admittedly failed to shine on his three subsequent outings. he did show signs of improvement last time out and was better than the bare result of 7th from 11 might suggest. He was closing the race out well, if a little too late and shaped as though he needed/wanted further.
I’d expect the extra furlong to help his cause today and he has also been eased a pound in the ratings.
The jockey and the trainer both have good records here and it has been proved that they work well together. We’ve got a horse who hasn’t quite hit the high spots just yet, but I’m sure this yard will get the best out of him and if that day is today, then the placing of a 1pt win bet on Cross The Boss at 4/1 BOG with Bet365 will be a terrific end to a good week for SotD. I wrote this quite early and the market can be a little volatile, so please…
