Daily Dabble, 22nd July 2013
After a run of poor form/selections, yesterday was both encouraging and frustrating at the same time, but eventually fruitless!
Jubilee Dancer made light of her 6lbs rise, as expected/hoped, as she made all to land her hat trick (all since the application of a hood). She stayed on well and was increasing her lead as the post came.
Her 15/8 SP meant that we’d then got 2.875pts riding on Steps To Freedom at 21/10 (after a Rule 4 deduction) and despite him going well enough, just didn’t have enough to catch the surprise 25/1 winner who made all the running. Ifs and buts don’t make you rich, so the one length defeat may hae well been greater, but maybe just some small hope for the week ahead.
I’m looking to a pair of two-year olds to get us back on track today, starting with the…
This average-looking 4-runner maiden appears to be a two-horse race to me and my preference is for Longton. He was admittedly last of three home on debut here over course and distance a fortnight ago, but showed enough promise to be of interest today having only been beaten by a couple of lengths. That result alone is probably the best piece of form available to any of the runners here today, as nearest rival Stars Over The Sea looked like he’d regressed from race 1 to 2. As one of the more fancied runners in a 4-horse race, no big prices here, but the 5/4 BOG available looks fair at least.
Richard Hannon’s horses always seem to improve for a run and he’ll be hoping that Djinni continues to prove that theory. She was 4th of 15 on debut and stayed on well over the same trip as today, but she was fifth string for the yard in that race and two of her stablemates were in the three horses ahead of her on debut. No stablemates to compete against today, she looks to have a strong chance of breaking her duck here. Richard Hughes rides her today, which is a positive and he rode the winner in this race for Richard Hannon last year, as they did in 2011 too! Will be well fancied today, but I’m happy enough to settle on the 11/8 BOG currently on offer.
Back Longton & Djinni in a double with Paddy Power paying just under 9/2 BOG (4.344/1!)
