Daily Dabble, 31st July 2013

Here at Geegeez, we’re open and honest enough to hold our hands up and admit when something isn’t working and sadly today is one of those days. It’s quite clear that I’ve not managed to make this site feature a success, despite a series of near misses. So, with regret, we have decided that today will be the last Daily Dabble for the forseeable future.

Yesterday’s results were pretty indicative of the way things have fallen for this feature, Nafa was the class horse in her race and brought the best form to the table, but when push came to shove had nothing extra when needed, finishing 3rd at 6/5.

That meant that man of Leisure was running for personal pride only and I’m happy to report that he gave a really gutsy account of himself. Conceding huge chunks of weight all round, he toughed it out and just about hung on to win by a neck at 7/4.

I do, however, expect both of today’s runners to do the business and at least let me sign off with a winning bet, starting with the…

3.25 Perth

The re-opposing Lord Of Drums and Mourne Paddy clashed here last night over 2m4f, with our selection finishing in 2nd place with the latter a further 23 lengths further back. Lord of Drums comes here in good form (4231412 this year) and still looks like he’s improving.  The drop down to today’s 2m trip is sure to suit him more than last night’s effort. His two wins this year were over this trip: once at Hexham in April and once over today’s course and distance just under 4 weeks ago. He hs won on Good ground and also Good to Soft and also has some good runs behind him on even softer ground than that, so the recent rain won’t be a hindrance either. I wouldn’t be surprised if he attempts to make all and looks a good bet at 11/8.

6.55 Sandown

Voice of a Leader is a son of Danehill Dancer from a mare who was a 1m winner as a 2yr old. He cost 210,000 guineas and was very well spoken of before his debut at Newmarket. He didn’t quite come to terms with the whole thing that day, but the experience will no doubt stand him in good stead. He was less than 2 lengths behind Expert that day and that one went on to win next time out. He is that well-regarded that he holds a couple of Group race (Champagne Stakes and the Royal Lodge) entries and even just normal progression should be enough to take this one today at a price of around 11/10.

Back Lord Of Drums Voice of a Leader in a double with either of Paddy Power or William Hill paying 4/1 BOG
