Trainer Stats: 5th Aug 2013

James-Fanshawe-001Andy Newton’s got six stables to look out for this week in his regular ‘Hot Trainers’ feature….

ED WALKER (5 winners from their last 9 runners, 56% strike-rate): Based in Newmarket the Ed Walker yard are one of the newer kids on the block – This is just their fourth season, with 2012 and 20 winners their best yet. They are almost halfway to that tally with 9 winners, but 5 of those have been in the last few weeks. It’s also interesting that 6 of their 9 winners this term have been with their 2 year-olds, so the future looks bright for them with that in mind. In terms of jockeys they use George Baker and Tom McLaughlin the most, while note any money in the market for their runners – the last four of theirs to be sent of favourite have won. You will find the bulk of their runners at tracks like Lingfield, Kempton and Wolverhampton, but look for any Redcar or Yarmouth entries as they are 3 from 6 at Redcar and 7 from 13 at Yarmouth.

SIR MARK PRESCOTT (11 winners from their last 21 runners, 52% strike-rate):
At one stage a few weeks ago the yard had sent out a staggering 9 winners from 12 runners, and Mark went on record after as saying that’s one of their best runs ever. Obviously they were not going to maintain that level but they’ve still sending out the winners, with jockeys Luke Morris and Chris Catlin riding the bulk of them. This current good run puts them on 24 winners from just 101 runners (24%) for the season, and considering they get between 50-60 in a normal campaign then we can expect plenty more winners in the coming months. 17 of their 24 winners have been with their 3 year-olds (38%), while at the time of writing they’ve had 5 two-year-old winners. Runners at tracks like Bath, Brighton, Carlisle, Chepstow, Chester, Epsom, Ffos Las, Hamilton, Lingfield, Haydock, Yarmouth and Sandown.

DAVID BARRON (4 winners from their last 8 runners, 50% strike-rate): Their old sprinter Hitchens did the business for them at Chester to land a decent Listed pot last Sunday, and that was their fourth winner this month. Add in a few seconds too then it’s been a great start to August for the stable. This puts them on 44 successes for the campaign, and that’s just 6 shy of their 2012 tally. 76 was their best yet in 2006, while in terms of prize money they have banked £469k in total this season. Note any juvenile runners as they’ve sent out 7 winners from just 26 sent to post in that age group this term. Tracks stats suggest looking for anything they send to Chester, Leicester, Lingfield AW, Southwell AW or Wolverhampton.

JAMES FANSHAWE (6 winners from their last 14 runners, 43% strike-rate):
Riding high at the moment with six recent winners, including a 14/1 success at Newmarket amongst those. This puts them on 21 winners for the season and are well on track to better the 34 they managed 12 months ago. 58 was their best finish to date in 2002, so it’s unlikely they will get near that total, but with over £415k banked in total prize money already then they are at least keeping the bank manager at bay too. No juvenile winners yet this term, but they’ve only had a few runners, but look for any 4+ year-olds as they are currently 11 from just 36 (31%) in that age group. Note any runners they send to Lingfield (turf), Redcar, Kempton AW – courses they have very decent strike-rates at.

MRS K BURKE (4 winners from their last 11 runners, 36% strike-rate): With 29 winners the Burke team are ticking along nicely, but more importantly they have scooped over £645k in total prize money – mainly due to their Libertarian finishing runner-up in this year’s Epsom Derby. They’ve sent out 5 juvenile winners this season from just 28 runners, while 14 (50%) of those 28 runners have finished in the top three. Look for any runners at Doncaster, Nottingham, Carlisle or Lingfield (turf) – all tracks they do well at.

OLLIE PEARS (3 winners from their last 10 runners, 33% strike-rate): Based in North Yorkshire this former jockey has been doing well since he took out a licence in 2007. They’ve sent out 102 winners over that period and 13 so far this season. Their best finish to a season was 24 in 2010 so they will have that in mind, while this season they are showing a decent +£41 level stakes profit. Just the one juvenile winner from 8 runners in that age group, and looking at their track stats they have the bulk of their runners at Wolverhampton and Southwell. However, note any Newmarket (July) runners as that’s been a lucky track for them too with 3 winners from just 13 runners.
