Double Dutch, 22nd September 2013

In what is becoming a recurring theme, it was one winning race and one losing race yesterday, meaning another 2pt loss, despite managing to get the job half right. It’s all the more galling when it’s race 1 that is successful and then you have to wait four hours for the final outcome.

Yesterday’s results were as follows:

Dawn Calling : won at 15/8
Red Warrior : 7th
Hickster : 3rd
Song of Rowland : 4th

It was that bad that both 2nd choice selections fared better than the main pick. Tie these results in with my Stat of the Day finishing 8th of 9 and my football team getting spanked again, you know what kind of day I had!

I’m taking a break from analysing the races today and I’m letting the excellent race analysis tool on our interactive racecards do the work for me. I’ve obviously got to interpret the data myself, but this is how I see the…

4.40 Uttoxeter:

Green Bank and Whistling Senator come into this race with the best recent form , boasting five wins and a second place from their last six combined runs.

Whistling Senator is 4/12 on good ground and 3/5 over today’s trip, whilst Green Bank is two from three over this three-mile distance. Both horses have won twice at this level, with Whistling Senator also having scored at Class 3.

These look the pick of this bunch and become my picks here at 4/1 and 9/4 respectively.

5.00 Plumpton:

Alderbrook Lad is the only one that seems to stand out here for me. He has two wins and a place from five runs on today’s good to firm ground and he is the only runner in today’s race with a win at this trip. He comes here in great form having won two of his last three outings, having been denied a hat-trick by a one length defeat last time out.

Safe Investment looks the most likely challenger, having beaten Alderbrook Lad last time out. He has notched up two wins and five places from his 11 runs on good to firm ground and he has won once and made the frame four times at this level for a place strike rate of 31.25%, easily the best on offer in this race today.

It’s not a good race by any means, but my two against the field are Alderbrook Lad and Safe Investment at prices of 2/1 and 5/1.
