Stat of the Day, 3rd October 2013
Close but no cigar yesterday, as Fanoos beat all bar Intrinsic at odds of 7/2. Chris is unavailable today, so I’ve stepped into the chair in his stead, and am trying an each way tickle in the…
The market in this race is made by a couple of solid but unspectacular horses, in Great Oak and Me And Ben. They are 6/4 and 9/4, and it’s 8/1 bar. But the better of the two is rated just 108, which is not that high for a Class 4 novices’ hurdle, even at this time of year.
With that in mind, they might be worth taking on, and one of the trainers with the best record here at Bangor is Philip Hobbs. He’s saddled 25 horses here in the last five years, with seven of them winning, for a profit of £23.58 to a £1 unit stake.
He’s taken just Dreams And Songs up today, and this mare has had only two starts, both in National Hunt Flat races, and both over two miles and a furlong. On the first of that pair, she stayed on to be beaten into fourth of thirteen behind Kilmruvy in a race that has thrown up a few subsequent winners.

Today, she steps up in trip to two and a half miles for her first attempt at hurdling in public, and both her form and her breeding imply that she’ll be better for the extra half mile or so. The ground should be fine too, and Hobbs’ horses have been peppering the target in recent days, though with more places than wins.
Dreams And Songs is a best priced 11/1 with BetVictor, and that looks worth taking each way, and best odds guaranteed…
