A/W and jumping action from across the Irish Sea today, starting with the…

3.45 Gowran Park

Cailin Annamh ticks all the boxes for me in this one, she’s proven at this level, having won four and finished 2nd three times in her seven runs since a creditable 5th place on debut a year ago. Her jumping was magnificent last time out at Kilbeggan four weeks ago where she won by almost 6 lengths and is unlikely to be troubled by the extra half furlong today and looks a good bet at 11/4 with Boylesports.

The obvious danger comes from short-priced (5/4 at Stan James) favourite Jennies Jewel who has been running consistently well in Listed and Group company, but hasn’t faced any hurdles for almost six months. That might well count against her here, but she did have a bit of a pipe-opener on the flat recently, finishing 3rd of 14 (beaten by 11 lengths) at Listowel over 1m6f a fortnight ago.

7.45 Dundalk:

Where it’s very hard to see beyond Afonso de Sousa, who was third  in the Acomb Stakes at York last year, before winning over today’s course and distance on his comeback last Friday. He’s unexposed and still improving and should justify his 13/8 favourites tag here this evening. That price is at BetVictor.

The winner of the 2011 Dewhurst Stakes, Parish Hall is the most likeliest to cause an upset, if running to the best of his abilities. He won the Irish Alleged (Listed) Stakes in April and 3rd to Camelot in the Group 3 Mooresbridge Stakes a month later. He came back in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes four weeks ago after a break of four months. He wasn’t disgraced by finishing 4th of 6, going down by 7 lengths to The Fugue and if he gets it right today, the 5/2 on offer from Coral looks attractive.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Jennies Jewel / Afonso de Sousa @ 5.63 with Stan James
Jennies Jewel / Parish Hall @ 7.35 with Coral
Cailin Annamh / Afonso de Sousa @ 9.38 with Boylesports
Cailin Annamh / Parish Hall @ 13.13 with Boylesports
