Newmarket Trainer Stats 12th October 2013
As we gear up towards the excellent Newmarket card this Saturday, Andy Newton gives you three yards that do well at the track, plus three that you might want to avoid…..
CHARLIE APPLEBY (Newmarket Track Stats: 4 winners from 10, 40% strike-rate): The newly appointed Godolphin handler has certainly hit the ground running with his horses at HQ – especially on the Rowley Mile course. Plus, if we drill into these stats even further then we’ll see that in fact 4 of those winners have been with just 6 juvenile runners (67%). Since taking over at the boys in blue Appleby has fired in 43 winners, while of his 232 runners 57% of those have finished fourth or better. They need just a few more big-race winners to break the £1million in total prize money – they are currently on £786,000. Looking ahead to Newmarket on Saturday at this stage they’ve Outstrip, Safety Check and French Navy engaged.
MIKE DE KOCK (Newmarket Track Stats: 2 winners from 7, 29% strike-rate): The South African-based trainer is raiding these shores more and more these days and in the last 5 seasons has now sent out 9 winners with his runners over here. Their Soft Falling Rain was an impressive winner of the a decent Group Two at Newmarket at the backend of last month and at this stage of the week they’ve got Daddy Long Legs entered in the Darley Stakes on Saturday.
ROGER CHARLTON (Newmarket Track Stats: 11 winners from 66, 17% strike-rate): The Charlton yard have fired in 35 winners so far this season and need just 6 more to better their 2012 tally. Add in that they’ve already notched over £1million in total prize money then all is looking good at the Wiltshire-based yard. That prize haul is mainly thanks to Al Kazeem’s excellent season that included wins in the Prince of Wales’s and Eclipse Stakes. Looking at their Newmarket track stats they do far better with their older horses at the venue with 6 of their last 29 horses aged 4+ (21%) going in. They are also showing a level stakes profit of +£32 at the course with all their runners.
To Potentially Avoid…………………….
KEVIN RYAN (Newmarket Track Stats: 2 winners from 49, 4% strike-rate): They are having a fantastic season with 81 winners to date and over £1.3million banked in total prize money. However, with Newmarket on the horizon this Saturday you might want to think twice about backing then at the track. Why? Well, they’ve only fired in 2 winners from their last 49 at the venue, and they were all with their older horses. They are 0 from 8 with their juveniles and 0 from 22 with their 3 year-olds at the course.
ED DUNLOP (Newmarket Track Stats: 3 winners from 85, 4% strike-rate): Another yard that can’t moan this season with 42 winners and over £660,000 in total prize money banked, but Newmarket’s Rowley Mile track has not been their most luckiest track. With just 3 winners from their last 85 (4%), which breaks down as just 1 juvenile winner from 37, 2 from 30 with their 3 year-olds and 0 from 18 with their older horses.
BRIAN ELLISON (Newmarket Track Stats: 0 winners from 36, 0% strike-rate): It may surprise some to know that the Ellison yard have not had a winner on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile in the last 5 seasons. They tried 36 times without success and at this stage have three entered in Saturday’s Cesarewitch Handicap. Away from Newmarket they are not doing too badly with 51 flat winners – that’s just 10 shy of what they managed in 2012, while they’ve also already sent out 10 winners over the sticks.
