Tim Vaughan’s Horses Going Well

This week Andy Newton’s got three NH trainers and three flat yards to look out for……

EMMA LAVELLE (6 winners from her last 10 runners, 60% strike-rate): The Lavelle yard have hit the ground running as the new NH season is beginning to hot up and anything they run at the moment should be noted. Jockeys Aidan Coleman and Gavin Sheehan are getting the leg-up on the bulk of their runners – they’ve been on all bar one of these recent winners (Noel Fehily on the other). They are now on 10 winners for 2013-14, and considering they had a dire time of it last term (just 12 winners) then it looks like Emma has got things back on track. 42 in 2011-12 was their best finish yet, and that looks an achievable target with a quarter of those winners already on the board.  As the season moves on look for any runners the send to tracks like – Doncaster, Fontwell, Leicester, Lingfield, Newton Abbot, Stratford, Taunton and Uttoxeter – all venues they’ve got decent strike-rates at.
CHARLIE LONGSDON (8 winners from his last 15 runners, 53% strike-rate): There are not many NH yards in better form at present than the Longsdon camp. They are already on a staggering 32 winners for 2013-14 and that’s just 24 shy of what they did last season. 69 the year before was their best yet, while 5 of the last 7 seasons have seen them finish with a positive level stakes profit. Noel Fehily is their main man in the saddle – he’s been on 5 of their last 8 winners. Look for any NH Flt runners as over the last 5 seasons they’ve operated in that sphere at a 20% strike-rate. In terms of tracks Bangor, Carlisle, Market Rasen, Musselburgh, Sandown, Southwell and Wetherby are the venues to look out for.

TIM VAUGHAN (3 winners from their last 8 runners, 38% strike-rate): Yes, only three recent winners, but 7 of the last 8 have finished fourth or better too. Their three winners returned 11/4, 8/1 and 14/1 too, so don’t be afraid to back any of their runners at a bigger price either.  They use a number of jockeys – obviously Richard Johnson is their main man, but Michael Byrne gets plenty of opportunities too and could be a jockey to keep an eye on in the coming months. They fired in 85 winners last season, 102 the season before and are already on 30 this term. JEREMY NOSEDA (6 winners from their last 14 runners, 43% strike-rate): With 45 winners the Noseda team need just 2 more to equal their 2012 tally. 62 was their best yet (2011) so that might be a tad out of reach especially with the main turf flat racing coming to a close soon.  Look for money in the market with their runners as their last four to be sent off favourite have all won. A massive 36 of their 45 winners have been with their 3 year-olds, and so far they’ve only had 2 juvenile winners this term. They do very well at tracks like Ayr, Beverley, Brighton, Leicester, Sandown and Yarmouth, while of the AW tracks they have decent strike-rates at them all bar Kempton.

JOHN GOSDEN (5 winners from their last 12 runners, 42% strike-rate): With 90 winners so far in 2013 then the Gosden team will be odds-on to break the 100 barrier once again. They’ve also notched up £1.8 million in total prize money and will be hoping for a good day at Ascot on Saturday to further boost that tally. The bulk of their winners this season have been with their 3 year-olds (57), but they have fired in 14 juvenile winners too – in fact 49 of their 82 2 year-olds runners have finished fourth or better. Not surprisingly, they’ve got excellent strike-rates at a lot of the turf tracks, but looking at the AW courses, again, they do well at most of them but in particular Southwell (39%).

AMANDA PERRETT (4 winners from her last 10 runners, 40% strike-rate): The West Sussex-based yard are ending the turf flat season on a high – they had a nice double at Kempton last week, and are now on 33 winners for the season (2 better than 2012). 60 in 2002 was their best finish, so that’s out of reach, but they’ve plenty to look forward to with 6 juvenile winners from just 29 runners, while 18 of their 29 2-year-old runners have finished fourth or better. Beverley, Ffos Las and Chepstow are tracks they do well at, while of the four AW courses they have the most runners at Kempton and Lingfield.
